Introduction
The VMA is a big believer in recognizing people’s good work.
For that reason, Section 5 of the VMA’s Bylaws have since 1920 provided that:
The Association shall, as a mark of esteem and appreciation for services rendered to the Association and the profession, confer the degree of Primus/Prima Inter Pares (First Among Equals) upon one or more of its members. Diplomas for the degree shall be presented at the Annual Osler Dinner.
PIP Awards
Our nominees are identified and selected based on a combination of factors in the lead up to our annual Osler Dinner where attendance is an essential part of the awarding of the degrees.
Degrees are hand-lettered, by a professional calligrapher, onto parchment and are presented in the form of a scroll.
No one but the Executive, and the presenter, know in advance who will be the awardees. This is part of the fun of the award.
